RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS – JAN. 28, 2025 – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is launching a new online Master of Science in Marketing degree for the Fall 2025 semester.

This program will prepare marketers to thrive in the evolving landscape of the industry, offering courses such as AI-Powered Marketing, Data Visualization and Social Media Strategy.  Students will gain hands-on experience with the advanced tools and technologies that define modern marketing.

Last year, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) approved UTRGV’s proposal for the new online degree program, with the inaugural module set to begin in August 2025.

Dr. Peter Magnusson, professor and department chair of Marketing at the UTRGV Robert C. Vackar College Business and Entrepreneurship, is overseeing the program. He noted that the MS in Marketing will provide tremendous value to UTRGV students, equipping them with advanced skills and knowledge to thrive in a competitive and evolving field.

“The accelerated online format of this program allows us to serve students in the Valley with greater accessibility while also reaching and supporting students far beyond our region,” he said.

The MS in Marketing degree will consist of 10 courses, covering topics from marketing consulting to marketing strategy, totaling 30 credit hours. Each course is approximately seven weeks long, and students can complete the program in less than one year.

Students in the program will enroll in a capstone experience focused on real-world marketing projects for specific clients. They will form teams to create a student-led consulting agency, collaborating to support a business partner.

The capstone goal is to empower students to apply their marketing knowledge while developing skills in analysis, project management, client relations, communication, decision-making and leadership.

Program graduates will have opportunities to pursue careers in various fields, including marketing analyst, digital strategist, AI content marketing specialist and search engine optimization (SEO) specialist.

The application deadline for the first module is August 13, 2025, with the module starting August 20, 2025.

UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley including in Boca Chica Beach, Brownsville (formerly The University of Texas at Brownsville campus), Edinburg (formerly The University of Texas-Pan American campus), Harlingen, McAllen, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island. UTRGV, a comprehensive academic institution, enrolled its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine welcomed its first class in the summer of 2016.
