RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS – MAY 23, 2024 – UTRGV has had two programs recognized by U.S. News & World Report in its most recent 2024 Best Graduate Schools rankings.

UTRGV’s Rehabilitation Counseling program was ranked #13 out of 94 U.S. institutions in the Best Rehabilitation Counseling Programs category, tied with the University of North Texas.

The rankings were tallied in 2023 as part of the Best Health Schools category. According to the U.S. News & World Report methodology, the rankings in Best Rehabilitation Category help spotlight rehabilitation counselors who help patients overcome physical, mental, emotional, and developmental disabilities and work in a variety of treatment and rehabilitation centers.

UTRGV also ranked #95 out of 318 U.S. institutions in the Best Schools for Social Work category, tied with Texas institutions Our Lady of the Lake University and University of Texas – El Paso.

Rankings were calculated and released in April of this year, also as part of the Best Health Schools category. U.S. News & World Report says each top social work program recognized is to highlight social work curriculum within institutions where students took courses in social welfare policy, human behavior and ethics, and exercised hands-on experience in clinical settings.

Each school’s scores have been ranked based on a survey of academics at peer institutions.

UTRGV President Guy Bailey said he is proud of the hard work and excellence consistently displayed by the university’s Social Work and Rehabilitation Counseling programs, so high rankings from U.S. News & World Report are not a surprise to him.

“This is yet another valued recognition for UTRGV programs dedicated to the continued success of our students,” he said. “It is also a testament to the faculty and staff who dedicate so much time and so many resources to preparing students for careers in health-related fields.”

ABOUT UTRGV

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley including in Boca Chica Beach, Brownsville (formerly The University of Texas at Brownsville campus), Edinburg (formerly The University of Texas-Pan American campus), Harlingen, McAllen, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island. UTRGV, a comprehensive academic institution, enrolled its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine welcomed its first class in the summer of 2016.
