The new accelerated online program, or AOP, is slated to start January 2024 during spring module one. It is a 30-credit-hour degree plan intended to grow and build talent in the field of human relations.

The program is open to all majors who meet the prerequisites of the program and are interested in advancing their knowledge and experience in human resources.

“That's the other beauty of human resources,” said Dr. Marco Garza, clinical assistant professor in the RCVCOBE Department of Management and director for Organizational Development for the UTRGV Office of Human Resources. “It’s been my experience as an HR leader running large organizations that some of the best HR leaders come from all varieties of undergraduate backgrounds, and so I always like to say, ‘Sometimes you don’t choose the profession, the profession chooses you.’”

The program is designed for the working professionals looking to upgrade their skillset and reskill their experience, and for those with goals to attain a leadership position and/or make a career change into the field of HR.

“This program will provide the innovation needed to advance future professionals in the field. We are very proud to be offering a program of this kind at the UTRGV Graduate College,” said Dr. Can (John) Saygin, senior vice president for Research and dean of the UTRGV Graduate College.

UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley including in Boca Chica Beach, Brownsville (formerly The University of Texas at Brownsville campus), Edinburg (formerly The University of Texas-Pan American campus), Harlingen, McAllen, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island. UTRGV, a comprehensive academic institution, enrolled its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine welcomed its first class in the summer of 2016.
