RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS – UTRGV this year will host its annual Day of Giving – the university’s largest online annual fundraising event – on Tuesday, April 26.
Day of Giving is an opportunity for university alumni, faculty and staff to show support for expanding UTRGV’s educational opportunities. Gifts provide scholarships for students and fund innovative faculty and programs.
The event in 2021 drew more than 510 donors and more than $125,000 in support of the student emergency fund, scholarships, athletics, the School of Medicine, university libraries and more than 50 other programs and colleges.
Dr. Kelly Nassour, PhD., UTRGV executive vice president for Institutional Advancement, said a gift to the university, no matter the amount, is an important investment in programs and services that enhance student learning, career development, wellness and success.
“Gifts from this one-day event directly support students during their journey through higher education,” Nassour said. “I encourage our community to join us for Day of Giving. The power of one day is immense. When we work together, we can change the world.”
Throughout the Day of Giving campaign, UTRGV works to create a culture of philanthropy and gratitude and raise awareness about the power of giving back.

ABOUT UTRGV
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund – a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions.
