RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS – UT Health RGV will open two clinical sites at H-E-B Plus! locations in Brownsville and Mission.

The clinical sites, V Express Care Clinics by UT Health RGV, mark a new opportunity for UT Health RGV, the clinical arm of the UTRGV School of Medicine, in an initiative designed to help increase the accessibility of healthcare in the Rio Grande Valley.

Offering a variety of on-site medical services, the clinical sites will open to the public on April 20 at two H-E-B Plus! Locations:

  • In Brownsville at the Paredes Line Road store.
  • In Mission at the East Expressway 83 store.

Dr. John H. Krouse, dean of the UTRGV School of Medicine and executive vice president for Health Affairs, said the opportunity will provide critical resources for health and education in the area.

“We are thrilled to provide walk-in options with convenient access to medical care for common health problems, for our communities in Mission and Brownsville,” he said.

Staff at each of the two clinics will treat minor illnesses, minor injuries, offer screenings, and provide other services like school and sports physicals and vaccinations, and the plan is to eventually expand beyond urgent care to also include acute care and complex disease management.

Krouse said this clinical model is designed to treat people, as well as to support preventive care.

“We wanted to promote both disease treatment and disease prevention,” he said. “With that, we will be able to offer the public nutrition services, flu and pneumonia vaccines and, when authorized, COVID vaccines.”

The clinics will be open to community members of all ages; most insurances will be accepted.

“Health and wellness have always been important pillars to H-E-B,” said Priscilla Grun, director of Human Resources for the H-E-B border region. “With these V Express Care Clinics, our friends at UT Health RGV will be able to provide great quality healthcare to our communities in the Valley.”

To help increase access to healthcare for the community, the clinics will be open seven days a week, and walk-ins are welcome. Appointments are encouraged. To request an appointment, visit the website: V Express Care by UT Health RGV.

ABOUT UTRGV

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund – a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions.

UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley including in Boca Chica Beach, Brownsville (formerly The University of Texas at Brownsville campus), Edinburg (formerly The University of Texas-Pan American campus), Harlingen, McAllen, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island. UTRGV, a comprehensive academic institution, enrolled its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine welcomed its first class in the summer of 2016.
