RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS – The UTRGV Tuition Advantage deadline has been extended through March 15 for undergraduate students attending classes in Fall 2021.

As UTRGV strives to continue to support students and families, all admissions and financial aid applications can still be accepted through this new deadline.

“UTRGV is extremely pleased to have the opportunity to extend the Tuition Advantage deadline from March 1 to March 15,” said Dara Newton, associate vice president of Strategic Enrollment. “UTRGV is committed to serving the students and families of the Rio Grande Valley and Texas.”

To be eligible for the Tuition Advantage, students must apply and submit their 2021-2022 FAFSA or TASFA by March 15.

Originally launched in Fall 2020, this program will now cover the cost of tuition and mandatory fees for students with a family income of $95,000 or less.

The UTRGV Tuition Advantage grant is available for students seeking an undergraduate degree, including incoming freshmen, and returning or transfer students. Undergraduate students must be working toward the completion of their first undergraduate degree and meet all eligibility criteria.

“Now more than ever, it is important to plan and prepare for obtaining a bachelor’s degree,” Newton said. “A bachelor’s degree opens the door for individuals and is worth about $1.5 million over the course of a lifetime. Our Tuition Advantage Program allows students and families to meet their goals with minimal to no debt upon graduation.”

The funds are available per academic year, awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Outreach support is available through UCentral to help students and families in a one-on-one appointment.

These services will help guide students through the ApplyTexas process and the FAFSA process. and will discuss next steps.

“Don’t miss the extended deadline,” Newton said. “New freshmen and new transfer students should apply to the university, be admitted, and apply and submit their FAFSA by March 15.

“Current and returning undergraduate students should submit their FAFSA no later than March 15,” she said. “UTRGV continually strives to support our students during the pursuit of their education.”

ABOUT UTRGV

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 as the first major public university of the 21st century in Texas. This transformative initiative provided the opportunity to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley, including a new School of Medicine, and made it possible for residents of the region to benefit from the Permanent University Fund – a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and other institutions.

UTRGV has campuses and off-campus research and teaching sites throughout the Rio Grande Valley including in Boca Chica Beach, Brownsville (formerly The University of Texas at Brownsville campus), Edinburg (formerly The University of Texas-Pan American campus), Harlingen, McAllen, Port Isabel, Rio Grande City, and South Padre Island. UTRGV, a comprehensive academic institution, enrolled its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine welcomed its first class in the summer of 2016.
