Who We Are Now
The Mobile Literacy Unit (MLU) is a community outreach vehicle designed to travel across the Rio Grande Valley. It contains a collection of children’s books and literacy teaching materials, such as iPads, games, and writing supplies that can be used during literacy events. The overarching purpose of the MLU is to promote literacy and reading achievement in the Rio Grande Valley by taking university resources into the local community for the benefit of both the university and the community. We will primarily be working with marginalized communities that lack access to literacy resources.
The MLU is overseen by Dr. Irasema Salinas-Gonzalez (irasema.gonzalez@utrgv.edu) and Mrs. Anna Aleman (anna.aleman@utrgv.edu) from the Department of Human Development and School Services.
