This service is offered to students in the College of Engineering and Computer Science. Join our community of makers, bring your project, learn by making, get help and learn by helping others.

SAFETY and RULES



Safety at The Innovaqueros Makerspace everyone must follow

  1. Wearing shorts or open shoes is not allowed in the Hi-Bay and Makerspace areas.
  2. You may use the tools available at your table (pliers, screwdrivers, etc.); to have access to other tools (power tools, electronics, etc.) you must receive specific training; ask the staff for help.
  3. Students can only use the Makerspace when a Staff is present.
  4. Never work alone, use the buddy system with your teammates.
  5. Use appropriate protective equipment such as protective eyewear, gloves, masks, etc., when using hand tools, power tools, working with electricity, working with biohazardous materials, chemicals, flammable materials, equipment, sharp objects, etc.
  6. Ask the Makerspace Staff if you need safety equipment such as goggles, masks, earmuffs, etc.
  7. Do not wear loose clothes, jewelry or loose hair when operating tools.
  8. Do not operate tools or equipment, or manipulate materials, or work with electricity without the proper training.
  9. Follow similar safety guidelines when working at home or other locations.
  10. Whenever in doubt, immediately contact the Staff or email makerspace@utrgv.edu
  11. Report any incident or potential hazard immediately to the Staff or email makerspace@utrgv.edu
  12. Anyone found not following UTRGV safety guidelines is subject to a penalty.

Rules at The Innovaqueros Makerspace everyone must follow

  1. Always Check in with the Makerspace Staff when you come into the Makerspace.
  2. Avoid leaving tools or equipment unsupervised, this also applies to your personal belongings as UTRGV is not responsible for lost items.
  3. Report any unknown person or suspicious activity to the Staff or campus police.
  4. Keep your work area neat and clean.
  5. When done, clean your work area, tables, and floor, and return any borrowed tools to the Staff. Ask the staff for cleaning supplies (vacuum, wipes, brooms, etc.)
  6. Food is prohibited in the Makerspace, except for special events.
  7. Do not remove furniture, tools, equipment, or materials from the Makerspace without explicit permission from the staff.
  8. Do not bring furniture from other labs or classrooms into the Makerspace.
  9.  
  10. Clean the whiteboards after each use.
  11. Keep the dry erase markers closed when not in use, do not remove them.
  12. Do not touch the TV monitors’ screens.
  13. Always return furniture, screens, stools, chairs, whiteboards, etc. to their original position.
  14. When done, inspect your work area (tables and floor), it must be clean, and tools must be returned to their corresponding places.
  15. Keep the Makerspace clean.
  16. Always ask the Staff whenever in doubt.
