Los Alamos National Laboratory & Oak Ridge National Laboratory Internships

Dear UTRGV STEM students:

The CA2REERs consortium at UTRGV (www.utrgv.edu/CA2REERS ) is inviting highly motivated students who major in STEM fields to apply for the 2025 summer internship opportunities at the Department of Energy Los Alamos National Laboratory and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Benefits:

1.     10-week summer internship at one of two renowned National Laboratories.

2.     Fully paid internship (travel and lodging support + competitive stipend).

3.     Potential for: a) continued support for research opportunities at UTRGV during the academic year, b) support to pursue a MS or PhD degree at UTRGV, c) employment at the National Laboratory where the internship was performed.

4.     Learn state-of-the-art science and technology.

Application documents:

1.     1 page resume

2.     1 page statement of interest (optional and a brief discussion of interest areas is acceptable)

3.     GPA 3.0 or above (unofficial transcripts accepted)

4.     In a separate document, indicate a) major and classification, b) topics of interest, c) preferred location (Los Alamos National Laboratory or Oak Ridge National Laboratory).

UTRGV students in the past have interned at the neutron sources group (Oak Ridge), the manufacturing demonstration facility group (Oak Ridge), and electrochemical fuel cell group (Los Alamos) to name a few research groups. Past and current projects with both laboratories include characterization techniques, machine learning, synthesis of small and large molecules, analytical techniques, programming, etc. However, students interested in other STEM disciplines are encouraged to apply as well. For additional information on research within those National Laboratories, visit their respective websites (ornl.gov and lanl.gov).

Requirements:

US citizen or legal permanent resident

Deadline:

Priority will be given to applications received on and before 1/31/2023, but applications will be accepted until 2/7/2025.

Interview sessions will be held with selected students, and the applications of successful candidates will be moved forward to the National Laboratories for final selection.
