Yes. It is the newest addition to the College of Business. Students will take all the core Business classes and then specialize in specific courses to prepare them for a successful career in the Hospitality and Tourism Business.
This business degree will prepare you for a management position within a range of hospitality enterprises, such as hotels, restaurants, clubs, resorts, healthcare and a broad range of service businesses such as banks, retail or airlines. That’s just the starting point.
In addition to following the prescribed sequence of classes in the major, students should get involved with the student club, do multiple internships while in school, participate in study abroad programs, take advantage of industry mentors and participate in conferences and student competitions. Take advantage of all leadership opportunities offered in the HOST major.
You can choose to earn a B.S. in Hospitality and Tourism both in a traditional face to face format or a 100% online format. You also have an option to do a Minor in Hospitality and Tourism to supplement any other degree being offered at UTRGV.
Yes, a 600 hour internship is required and a core part of the program. We can assist you with an internship.
Yes, we offer scholarships to students in the HOST Major. These scholarships are mainly to help with student travel to conferences or study abroad programs.
Yes. We typically hire 3-4 students to work in the department. These work opportunities provide students with leadership and management opportunities. As a new department, we have many projects where student involvement is valuable.
