Dr. Arthur Lionel Cantos

Dr. Arthur Cantos is the Director of Clinical Training in the Department of Psychological Science at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and was previously Program Director in the APA approved program at La Universidad Carlos Albizu in Puerto Rico and DCT for the Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. He was previously Director of Mental Health for the country of Gibraltar. He practiced as a licensed clinical psychologist in New York State for 15 years working in community mental health, foster care and child abuse, completing forensic diagnostic evaluations and in private practice. He also practiced as a licensed clinical psychologist in Illinois providing services in a specialty clinic for anxiety disorders as well as completing parenting capacity evaluations for the Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS).  He holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook as well as advanced degrees and diplomas from Middlesex Hospital, Department of Psychiatry, University of London, England and the University of Valencia, Spain. He is bilingual and bicultural. He has over 30 years of experience in practice and academia and is licensed to practice clinical psychology in the states of Illinois and New York, as well as in the United Kingdom. Over the past 30 years he has done extensive work in all aspects of the family violence area and has made numerous presentations on the topic of treatment of male perpetrators of intimate partner violence.

Maria Isabel Ramos Martinez

Maria Isabel Ramos Martinez is a Mexican undocumented single mother and first-generation alumni from the University of California, Irvine (UCI). She worked in California’s Central Valley as a Support Counselor & Youth Specialist for two non-profit organizations. She is currently a second year doctoral student in the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. Spanish bilingual program at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Her commitment as a helping professional is motivated by the need for more Spanish-speaking professionals that understand experiences in the community such as, immigration, domestic violence, sexual assault, trauma and resilience, and racial discrimination as a start while engaging in cultural humility that is much needed in the field.

Margot Martinez

Margot Martinez has a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from UTRGV and as an undergraduate student was part of three research teams under the direction of Dr. Weimer, Dr. Ernst and Dr. Popan. She was able to present her findings in two different conferences at South Padre Island, Texas and Houston, Texas. Margot also interned at Tropical Texas Behavioral Health Center where she was able to shadow an employee from every level of care. She is currently a Clinical Psychology graduate student.
