Below you will find some anticipated questions about course evaluations. If your question is not addressed, please reach out to courseevals@utrgv.edu.
Student Access
Is there a central website where my students can access all course evaluations at once?
Yes. Students will see their pending course evaluations in Brightspace during the open evaluation period. They will need to open each course individually to provide feedback. A pop-up message will appear when the evaluation is open. If they don’t see the pop-up message, they can also access the evaluation from the “My Course Evaluation & Surveys” widget.
How can students access their course evaluations if they are not available on Brightspace?
Even if the course is not available on Brightspace, links for all their course surveys will be available there. They will also receive links to their surveys through their UTRGV email.
Communication
How will students know they are supposed to complete the course evaluations online?
Every student will receive an email with links for their course evaluations at the beginning of the evaluation period. Students will also receive a pop-up message every time they log into Brightspace, prompting them to provide their feedback via the evaluation form.
If a student is taking more than one course this term, will that student receive multiple email messages with individual links for each course?
No. Students will only receive one email with links to all the course evaluations for their enrolled courses. The email will also contain instructions on how to access these. Afterward, several reminders will be sent during the evaluation period.
Can students still complete the course evaluation even if they missed the initial email notification?
Yes. Students will receive daily email reminders with links to the evaluation tool throughout the open evaluation period. These links will also be available in Brightspace.
Team-Taught Courses
If students are part of a team-taught course, will they need to fill out separate evaluations for each instructor in the course?
Students will only fill out one evaluation for each course. However, for courses with more than one instructor, they will have the opportunity to provide feedback for each instructor listed in the course.
Evaluation Questions & Responses
What are the five pre-populated questions that appear in every evaluation?
The students will have a Likert scale response of Strongly Agree, Agree, Neutral, Disagree, Strongly Disagree, and Not Applicable for each of the questions below.
- The instructor defined and explained the course objectives and expectations.
- The instructor was prepared to teach each instructional activity.
- The instructor communicated information effectively.
- The instructor encouraged me to take an active role in my own learning.
- The instructor was available either electronically or in person.
As the instructor, will I be able to connect a student’s evaluation feedback to his/her identity?
No. Student responses are confidential and do not contain any identifying information.
When will I be able to see my students' evaluation responses?
Instructors will not receive any course evaluation data until after final grades have been submitted and certified by the University, thereby ensuring the integrity of the feedback process. Faculty will only receive aggregated data for their courses. Individual student responses remain anonymous.
Reporting
When will I receive my course evaluation report?
Each instructor should expect to receive an email with the link to their results five days after the course end date and after final grades have been posted. Instructors will be able to access their reports through the My Course Evaluations & Surveys widget in Brightspace, or they can log into the Course Evaluations & Surveys dashboard via the Watermark icon located in their my.utrgv.edu app section.
I did not receive a report for one of my classes. What do I do?
Faculty will not receive a summary report for their class if the enrollment is less than five students. If your course had more than five students enrolled in the section, and you did not receive a summary report, please contact courseevals@utrgv.edu.
Deadlines
If a student misses the course evaluation deadline, can a new evaluation be issued?
No. All course evaluations must be completed during the timeframe specified in the email sent to students at the beginning of the evaluation period.
