Since stepping into the role of Interim Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs in September 2024—and officially assuming the permanent position on January 1, 2025—Dr. Robert K. Dearth has applied a results-oriented, strategic approach to advancing faculty leadership at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. An endocrinologist and seasoned academic leader, Professor Dearth has been a pivotal force in UTRGV’s School of Integrative Biological and Chemical Sciences. His research on endocrine-disrupting chemicals and neuroendocrinology has earned national recognition, with innovative projects addressing the biological drivers of early puberty, hormonally driven breast development, and breast cancer risk. These contributions reflect a broader commitment to improving public health through scientific insight and interdisciplinary collaboration. Beyond the laboratory, Dr. Dearth is a seasoned academic strategist with a proven track record of driving institutional change. As the former Founding Director of UTRGV’s School of Integrative Biological and Chemical Sciences and a previous Chair of Biology and Chemistry, he consistently demonstrated strong problem-solving skills and strategic leadership, enhancing academic programs and elevating outcomes for both students and faculty. His approach blends data-informed decision-making with a keen understanding of academic systems and emotional intelligence, always grounded in a commitment to developmental excellence.
