UT and Texas A&M systems announce collaboration to bring more educational opportunities to RGV

HARLINGEN, TEXAS-DECEMBER 17, 2014-Leaders from The University of Texas System, The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Texas A&M University System and Texas A&M University-Kingsville have agreed to collaborate to expand educational opportunities in the Rio Grande Valley.

“We fully support Texas A&M’s offerings of complementary engineering programs, and in turn, Texas A&M will support the expansion of professional and doctoral programs at UTRGV,” said Dr. Guy Bailey, UTRGV President. “I am confident that by working together we can both bring more educational opportunities to all students.”

The groups met in Harlingen on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at the Regional Academic Heath Center in Harlingen at the invitation of Dr. Pedro Reyes, UT System Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

“By working together, we will help develop an educated and skilled workforce that will benefit not only the Valley but Texas and the nation as well,” Reyes said.

In the coming months, working groups for both institutions will meet to develop a plan to look at other ways to collaborate.
