Degree Plans

To earn a Master of Education in Educational Technology, students must complete 30 semester credit hours according to the following degree plan:

Curriculum and Instruction: (6 hours)

  • EDFR 6300 – Foundations of Research in Education
  • EPSY 6304 – Foundations of Learning, Cognition and Social Development

Educational Technology: (15 hours)

  • EDTC 6320 – Instructional Technology
  • EDTC 6321 – Instructional Design
  • EDTC 6323 – Multimedia/Hypermedia
  • EDTC 6325 – Educational Communications
  • EDTC 6332 – Practicum in Educational Technology

Electives: (9 hours)

Students will select 9 hours of electives based upon their professional needs and academic interests (e.g., 9 hours in a specific content area such as reading, mathematics, science) or desire to earn a graduate certificate in in  E-Learning or  Technology Leadership, or both.

  • Degree Options

    DEGREE OPTIONS

    The M.Ed. in Educational Technology is a 30-hour accelerated program. Students must complete the 21-hour core courses plus 9 hours of electives. With faculty advisor approval, students can customize their Program of Study to meet their specific needs.

    We offer the following options:

    M.Ed. Traditional . This program of study allows students to select 9 credit hours of electives in a specific content area such as educational technology, reading, mathematics, or science. 

    M.Ed. + E-Learning Certificate . This program of study allows students interested in teaching online in higher education or at e-learning industries to earn an E-Learning Certificate. To earn the  E-Learning Certificate as part of the M.Ed. program of study, you will need to submit two separate degree plans. 

    M.Ed. + Technology Leadership in Education Certificate . This program of study provides educators/trainers with the skills and knowledge needed to be effective leaders in technology. To earn the   Technology Leadership in Education  Certificate  as part of the M.Ed. program of study, you will need to submit two separate degree plans. 

      M.Ed. + E-Learning + Technology Leadership Certificate . This program of study allows you to earn the E-Learning and Technology Leadership in Education Certificates as part of the M.Ed. program by taking just one additional course (to bring the coursework to 33 semester credit hours). To earn the   E-Learning Certificate and   Technology Leadership in Education  Certificate  as part of the M.Ed. program of study, you will need to submit three separate degree plans. 


    Course Substitutions

    Use this form if you need to substitute courses on your degree plan. Please note that all course substitutions must be approved by the Faculty Advisor, Department Chair, College Dean, and Dean of the Graduate College.


    TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP IN EDUCATION (TLE) CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

    The Technology Leadership in Education (TLE) Certificate is a 9-graduate credit program that is geared toward providing educators and trainers with the skills and knowledge needed to be effective leaders in technology. Principals, superintendents and technology leaders currently in roles as administrators as well as teachers who seek to take more of a leadership role in their district will benefit from this certificate.

    • EDTC 6340 – Integration of Advanced Technologies in Education and Training

    • EDTC 6342 – Technology Leadership

    E-LEARNING CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

    The 12-hour graduate certificate program targets individuals interested in working as e-learning practitioners in K-12, higher education, corporate, or e-learning industries. Candidates will be able to serve as effective online educators by advancing knowledge and skills in electronic learning, both conceptual and practical; and meet changing job requirements in response to current trends in e-learning.

    • EDTC 6358 Theory and Practice of e-Learning
    • ELECTIVE with an emphasis on e-learning production skills
