The near-peer mathematical mentoring cycle: studying the impact of outreach on high school students’ attitudes toward mathematics

Open a printable version of the Journal Article.

EAGL Presentations Changing High School Student's Attitudes towards Mathematics includes investigation the impact of this outreach work by collecting and analyzing survey data for shifts in student's attitude towards Mathematics during the presentation given by EAGL group.

Our educational objective is to gain High School and College students' deeper appreciation for nature, beauty, and depth of mathematics by seeing and doing advance mathematics with college near peers, professors and sharing experiences with them.

The educational design of this study uses the Near-peer Mentoring Cycle (Figure 2) as a conceptual model to inform the structure and relationships of educational activities and participants.

Near-Peer Mentoring Cycle: Where College Students can mentor High school students through engaging just like how College professors mentor College Students through engaging. Imagining, aligning, and confirming from engaging carries over to College Students from High School Students similar to how it carries ofr to College professors from college students
