My exhibit is a bakery inspired by the style of an old European tavern. I chose the name because sometimes a dessert you eat can be just in the middle of good and great. Pretty Good is what you get when you hit that sweet spot that is just right. I have always loved visiting local bakeries. Seeing all the nice desserts prepared or ready to be served on the shelves has always activated my sweet tooth. Paying for a various amounts of sweet bread at a reasonable cost also inspired for me to choose a bakery idea. My father always encourages me to pursue creations that I am passionate about. He would joke that I should open a small café or bakery so we could make some good money. This is how I would promote the business should the opportunity arrive in the future. My design choice was mainly inspired by the aesthetic of the table-top board game called Dungeons and Dragons. I enjoy playing this game with some friends of mine while we eat snacks. The setting is similar to medieval times where a band of adventurers go out to fight evil, claim treasures, and cause some funny mistakes of their own accord. At the end of a battle, my group would always rest in a tavern and relax, have funny moments, and occasionally start a bar fight that ending with drunk singing. All in a fictional setting as a reminder. A place like that would be a pretty good place to try and create for a promotional business. The old tavern style has always seemed warm, cozy, and a good place to relax while enjoying some nice food. I researched warm colors to use in my design which consisted of warm browns, red, and a few of orange to create a sense of good atmosphere. I gathered reference images from real old English taverns that still exist in the world. Originally, I was planning to use real freshly baked bread images for my design. But I could never get the correct picture design to look high-quality. Instead, I found a nice apple pie image that I could use as my centerpiece for my main poster. I created my posters using Adobe Illustrator and all the tools and fonts that came within the program. I created the background with vector art that I had drawn, and used a source sans variable font for all of my main text.
