Artist Statement
I am a young Texas-based Black artist with a passion for digital art, storytelling, and visual development. At a very young age, I’ve always found comfort in creating art, especially as someone who was very shy and nonverbal. Drawing became my voice and served as a way to connect with the world around me. Watching cartoons and playing computer games with my siblings during that time also sparked my creativity and helped contribute to my evolving art style as I got older. It wasn’t until high school that I realized just how much animation meant to me and was something I wanted to pursue for the rest of my life.
For me, art is about finding joy and authenticity in my creations. I strive to appreciate my growth and artistic process without filtering my identity or creative expression. Staying true to myself and my vision keeps me connected to my work and motivates me to keep creating. My growth as an artist is just as important as the final product, and I find satisfaction in knowing that each piece reflects who I am. My creative process is a mix of curiosity and exploration. I love studying different styles, breaking them down, and finding ways to make them my own. I’m drawn to mixing mediums and experimenting with bold, unconventional designs. Whether through illustration, animation, or graphic design, I want my work to have energy and heart.
Like many artists, I struggle with self-doubt and creative blocks, however, finding ways to remain artistically inspired reminds me of why I started creating art in the first place. It keeps me grounded and allows me to look forward to what I will create next. Surrounding myself with inspiring spaces and like-minded individuals pushes me to explore the full extent of my abilities. Making art is deeply personal to me, which is why my ultimate goal isn’t gaining global recognition or fame. Instead, I want to find fulfillment in the moments when my art resonates with others and when I can share it with my friends, family, and the creative community around me. Knowing that my work has a place, no matter how big or small, is what keeps me moving forward.
