Artist Statement

personal logoArt has always been my form of self-expression, a way to breathe life into my passions and experiences. I am Natalie Aime Escobedo, with a deep love for storytelling, nostalgia, and the power of visual design. My artistic journey is rooted in the magical worlds of my childhood, the vibrant, fantastical universes of The Last Unicorn, My Little Pony, Jem and the Holograms, She-Ra and the Princess of Power, and Sailor Moon. These iconic shows not only shaped my view of the world but also instilled in me a profound appreciation for the power of imagination and the importance of personal identity.

The allure of unicorns has been a consistent thread throughout my life, a symbol of beauty, freedom, and wonder. This affection is reflected in my work, where themes of whimsy, fantasy, and self-discovery often collide. The colors, characters, and narratives from these childhood shows resonate with me still, echoing through my art as I explore how media can shape and reflect one's identity over time.

Although I was known as the “Art Kid” in my school, I often found that the very passion that defined me was met with skepticism and discouragement. In an environment that largely valued traditional career paths—law, medicine, business it sometimes felt as though art was seen as a hobby, not a viable or respected profession. Art, for me, is not just about creating something beautiful, it's about capturing the essence of what inspires and moves me. It’s a space where memories, emotions, and dreams collide. As I continue my education and artistic practice, I am excited to explore new ways of sharing my creative voice with the world, rooted in the magic and meaning of the things I cherish most.
