Exhibit Work

My exhibit is a collection of ideas and visions to which I can only describe as "ironic avant-garde" design (the word ironic might be redundant considering how most of avant-garde fashion in the industry today already has an ironic twist) or a college student's first attempt at an "anti-design" design. The name MARKET CRASH first originated from a first attempt as a clothing brand almost six years ago that was destined to fail due to improper design skills, lack of captial, and poor communication with my business partner at the time. I had chosen to repurpose this name to create a concept fashion label as a way to showcase my skills in fashion and to test myself in what I'm able to create with the limited resources ang knowledge of fashion have. This concept label dives into the world cf high-end fashion and its affect on people who consume from it, especially those who are far from ever affording it. Many consumers will go out of their way to put their financial stability at risk just to afford a fit that will set them back from fulfilling other financial responsibilities (i.e. bills, student loans, credit card debt, a mortage, etc.).
In the fashion industry, designer labels create clothing for the poor while the rich are ada- mantly trying to dress wearing anything that doesn't make them appear of high value or status (.e. Mark Zuckerberg, the late Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, etc.). The use of credit cards and living paycheck-to-paycheck just to be able to step inside the world of designer fashion is extremely prevelant especially amongst the youth. The game of patience and self-control is thrown out the window when it comes to working for the things you want and instead, many have taken the route of maxing out credit cards beyond their limit just to get their hands on a purse, sweater, or shoes they want. Buy now and ask questions later once the bank comes knocking at your door.
I want to use this as an opportunity to be able to replicate the absurdity of high-end fashion and putting a sardonic twist to it, with or without the hopes of offending people. Everything is anticipated to be created from thrifted clothing or bought from online stores and create something that comes off as "high-end." This is as much as a learning experience for mvealt as it is a showcase of fashion to the public.
