Artist Statement
Viewing life from the perspective of an artist, life gains a new perspective from moment to moment, from detail to detail. I find that I often observe myself from a third person perspective, as if I am watching myself at any given moment. It helps to be self aware as an artist as it allows me to appreciate the beauty of my own life and incorporate these aspects of my life into writing and art. When it comes to both, drawing from personal experience always helps amplify the credibility to any piece of creative work as it shows that the creator has lived a life beyond their art.
Any creative will always incorporate aspects of themselves into their work, so that is why I personally strive to live my life to the fullest. I strive to appreciate everything that enters my day to day life, from casual talk with friends, reading manga, sunsets, rainy days, the company of family, boring homework assignments, bad traffic, even loss to some extent. Even the things that weigh me down with fury and depression are things that make me feel reassured of my own life. Knowing that my life is filled with a constant struggle against myself makes me full of hope that I can always strive to be a better person for a better tomorrow.
This personal revelation I have made about myself has made me realize my own definition on what it means to be human. We are no perfect beings, we are always going to be tempted by the glamor of sin, but knowing we have a choice to turn away from it consciously is all the affirmation I need to pursue a version of myself that can overcome any fear. This is the part of myself that I oh so strongly want to put into my art.
Knowing that I will inevitably die someday fuels me to work hard at achieving these two goals of mine. To live a full life and use that experience into making the best art I possibly can in order to leave something behind that will teach and inspire others long after I am no longer able to lift my brush to the canvas.
