Artist Statement
The way to discover my passion for the arts was very spontaneous yet full of curiosity and amusement. This adventure started at a very early age. I remember being 6 years old and loving art summer camps, where I learned about painting, mixing colors, molding clay, drawing, and dancing. It was fascinating to discover everything I was capable of doing with my hands and my imagination. Whenever I sat in front of a blank page and some color crayons my creativity started flowing so naturally, and anything I created in my mind, my hands were able to translate it into reality. As I grew up I discovered that this was not only a hobby, but it was an extraordinary way in which I expressed my feelings and thoughts, full of colors, lines, and shapes that transformed it into something artistic and beautiful. When I was in middle school, I discovered new tools besides a canvas and paint or a sketch book and some crayons. I started making digital art. I could spend hours in front of my mom’s computer, designing my presentations and projects, paying attention to small details, color schemes, imagery, and arranging the information in a visually interesting way. At that time, I never imagined that making digital art could become my professional career. It was until high school, while taking the Art Appreciation course, that I discovered that this passion that evolved for years in my life was the path that I wanted to follow professionally. I wanted to become a Graphic Designer.
As a Graphic Designer, I consider there are various essential stone pillars that need to be present in all my designs. First of all is authenticity, I’m committed with myself to be true to my own creative style and imagination, because they mark the essence of my designs. Next is effective communication; I always pay close attention to the effectiveness of the message I want to express, making it clear and easy to understand but visually pleasing and attractive. Then is evolution; it’s very important to keep growing as a designer and seek for new inspiration, new techniques, new ideas. So I try to show this evolving style in my designs, but keeping it consistent with my essence and ideals. With this, I would like to inspire other emerging artists to not be afraid to try different approaches, because this will build up their own artistic style and give them a unique essence that people will identify and admire. In design, the aesthetic aspect of a project is fun and exciting, but I have learned to enjoy the problem-solving part too. I like to start a project by recording all the creative process on paper, to have a clear concept of what I want to achieve, the identity and uniqueness that I desire for it, and to go back to the initial idea whenever I might feel stuck on the process. This, for me, is an essential part of thinking critically and logistically to make things work.
