Art and stories have the power to create a significant impact on people since we can often find a little of ourselves through them. Even though we might not always notice, art and stories are everywhere and have probably even shaped different aspects of our lives. This thought inspired me to create a publishing company that features a children's book for my project since it would encompass two of my favorite things; books and illustration.

I decided to call the publisher company “Luminar” and create a logo relating to light to represent wonder, adventure, discovery and magic since I wanted the company to focus on fiction books for kids and teens. In order to complement the publisher and the fantasy theme, I came up with the idea of “Child of the Earth”, an illustrated children’s storybook that revolves around the theme of self-discovery. Even though it is a fantasy book, I wanted to include experiences that young people might encounter in the real world like finding their own identity. The story revolves around a young wisp who, like his brothers and sisters, is trying to find his role in the forest. To do this, wisps need to complete trials in order to find their talents, but the protagonist is not very good at any of them. It is up to him to find his talent and his special role in the forest. The story represents the many phases that people, especially kids and teens, go through while trying to figure out who they are. In addition to the cover and some spreads of the book, I also made a plushie of the main character.

With this project, I wanted to reflect my interests and do something I enjoy. I have always wanted to be a part of the entertainment industry in a creative role, and storytelling, as well as illustration, are the aspects that I feel the most attracted to. I think that these have a great power to inspire and connect with all kinds of people as they can be perceived differently by each individual. So, in a way, art and storytelling are universal and something we can all share with each other to express ourselves and learn from others.
