Museo de Vestidos Mexicanos

The Museo of Vestidos Mexicanos is a museum that presents to the public the great textile wealth developed in Mexico, focusing on the clothing and fashion. Clothing has always been considered a code which can determinate behaviors, certain social status, or the explicit belonging to a certain group or culture. Fibers of clothing have been woven in Mexico for about two thousand years ago. Once mestizaje was established, our identity was concretized. The attire shown in this museum has Indigenous and European roots, and to lesser extents, Arab, Asian, and African roots.
My exhibit idea was to conjoin my biggest interests, fashion and design. I wanted to also include a piece of my culture that is not regularly represented in dept. Not everybody takes the time to look at the past and see how attire and fashion go hand in hand and have always represented where we come from. It is important to me to demonstrate how attire and fashion are communicating vessels that feed off each other and could also serve as a division of cultures in Mexico.
