When I was a little girl, I was always fascinated with creating crafts, painting, and experimenting with different kinds of art supplies. Very often, my parents would take me to our local craft store and I remember being fascinated by all the products available. It made me want to do further research and create my own art. I also attended summer art classes at the Michaels craft store and the Children’s Museum. These classes made me realize that art was something that I was truly passionate about and wanted to pursue as a career in the future. In high school, I chose a career pathway that introduced me to the Adobe programs. Using a variety of these programs, helped me develop an interest in communication design and expression. I saw how I could create unique work that could communicate ideas or messages across effectively, be expressionistic, and leave an impact on the viewers. With communication design and expression, there was an endless amount of opportunity for creativity. Right before I graduated high school, I looked into possible career choices that involved using communication design. I stumbled upon graphic design and decided to pursue it as a degree because I knew this would be a career I would enjoy working in and could learn a lot from.
My work is important to me because as an artist, I create work that reflects and represents meaningful aspects of my life or events that have had an impact on me. The inspiration behind this theme is that life has always been an important topic to me, and I see it as something that is very valuable. I see life as this beautiful journey that is unique as everyone has a different story. I love learning about people and hearing their stories that I thought it would be fun to share my own through my artwork. I also like creating work that helps me connect with others who may have gone through the same experiences or can relate their own life to mine. It is amazing to see how much artists relate to those around them and how much of an impact they can have on the lives of others. With my work, I hope to make people smile, inspire others to follow their dreams, and be able to connect with the world on a deeper level. I also hope that I am able to make a difference in someone’s life and create art that people will enjoy and remember.
To create new pieces for my work I often look at inspiration whether that be through other artists, the internet, my own personal experiences, or the world around me. By looking at inspiration, I am able to expand my knowledge on new art forms, mediums, styles, and discover new information that can help me develop ideas. For certain topics, I like to do research to gain a better understanding. Once I have done some research or gained inspiration, I take out my sketchbook and start sketching out possible ideas. After completing my sketches, I like to look at all of them and decide which one would be the best to work with. I will then go onto the Adobe programs and start designing them digitally. Sometimes, I do experience creators block and have problems arise as I do my work. When that happens, I like to step out for a break and then come back with a refreshed mind. Other times, I will experiment as it helps open up my eyes to new creative possibilities. From there, I will continue to work until I complete the finalized artwork.
