My name is Alexis Flores and I am someone who is constantly challenging my creativity to come up with new concepts and designs that will ultimately make an impact. Personally, I see graphic design as less for myself and more for others.

For as long as I can remember, art has always been a central theme in my life. From childhood to current day, art has been a safe haven for me. Upon discovering graphic design, I dove into a whole new world, and once I did, I never wanted to look back. What’s most important to me about my work is the fact that through it, I am able to reach a variety of people. Through graphic design, I have the opportunity to create an experience, send a message, or set a tone. Personally, I see graphic design as less for myself and more for others. It is about effective communication, problem solving, and a most importantly, a relationship and understanding that will bring about change and influence. As a graphic designer, I am creating an experience through a visual message that is clean, structured, and appealing. I hope to reach people in ways that would not otherwise be possible without the means of graphic design. My goal is to communicate clear and precise work that can be quickly and easily understood by the viewer, while still being able to have fun with typography and color in the final composition. When I begin my process of working on a new project, I first begin with sketches on paper. I would say I work in four stages: sketches, digital drafts, mature drafts, and the final composition stage. I start out simple and just allow my mind to flow and create. I find great joy in creating new work and keeping busy, so my work is where I spend most of my time. If I become stuck, I step away from the work to get my mind in order so that the result can be successful. A way I find effective to solving problems is to go right back to the drawing board. I take a few steps back and begin to look for more inspiration until I find a resolution to my problem. Through graphic design, I hope to go on to deliver messages with a foundation of truth. I saw my BFA project as the perfect opportunity to do that exactly. I challenged myself into using bolder colors and playing with typography, while still creating a clear message. The colors and typography were carefully chosen to attract the appropriate audience and create an identity.
