Designer Statement

Minh Mai personal logoThe Coursera course that I participated in was UI/UX design. I believed that I made a lot of progress over the weeks and months I’ve spent on this course. I went over a lot of major principles as well as aspects of UX/UI design that have helped me obtain a better understanding of the importance of the subject as well as its contribution to today’s modern economy.

I recognized that the products, applications, and websites that our designers make aren’t just primarily made to advance technology or create more convenient solutions to our daily problems, but also to allow us to help those in need in the world. It isn’t just about making money but rather about giving ease of access, virtual assistance, and many more to those who are struggling to find a workaround to certain problems that we have in modern society.

The Coursera course was one of the very first online courses I took that can give me a virtual degree that proves my skill and knowledge to that area of expertise and I’m glad that I took the opportunity to give it a try because I wouldn’t have known how amazing everything that the course taught me was. It has opened my eyes to some issues that I was struggling with before and questions that I had left unanswered.

I was able to pinpoint issues more easily, be able to organize my processes in a more professional manner and be able to come up with new ideas and solutions I thought weren’t previously available due to my lack of real-world experience. I am sure there is still more to learn about the subject, and I hope I can continue my journey on Coursera to eventually obtain my degree in the UI/UX design as I find it very beneficial to my expertise and everything else correlating to design.

One of the many things that I found was quite challenging upon taking the UX/UI design Coursera course was that it took my critical thinking skills to a whole new level. Which I think a lot of people need nowadays is crucial to deeply understand the issues consumers have and expertly resolve it in a manner that is just not convenient but also as swiftly as possible. Design isn’t just about cosmetics or how we feel about it because the main selling point of design is to attract and assist consumers with their needs while maintaining an identifiable brand or design that appeals to onlookers. That would result in a more successful and most importantly, sustainable product.

These last few weeks of my Coursera course in UX/UI design has challenged me to many obstacles, and it has improved the way I work around things whilst maintaining professionalism and adequacy in the matter. You must let people know you mean business and that your business works more effectively and conveniently than others. It has taught me the difference between sympathy and empathy as well as how to proficiently construct my process on projects in a way that helps me and many others who work on projects become more efficient and motivated all the way down the road.

What excited me the most was seeing the integration of tools, applications, and things that I’ve known before being used at a more professional level. We always see what’s on the front side of things and how it gets used by others, but we never realize the intricacies and complexity that goes behind every action that a product expresses. Being able to see all of that behind the curtains has given a better understanding as to why something works or why something doesn’t work. It lets me know what best to avoid doing or what’s best to continue following and improving my capabilities.

I am more of a visual learner so things that I watch I can replicate more accurately not to mention being descriptive in the process and steps of creating products gives me a better understanding on the roadmap of projects if I were to lead on day as a team. Speaking about team, the course has also taught me the value of working as a group and being as accommodating but as strictly professional as I can be in that type of environment. Not everything can be done alone and working as a team allows for different perspectives and feedback which are very important if we were to make a successful design or product in a project. This is especially even more crucial if the deadlines for projects are limited and are close to deadlines, which would normally be completely impossible for a singular individual to partake in.

Would I recommend this UX/UI design Coursera course to any of my peers or friends? Most likely, because I think that not only is it easy to follow each step along the way but there are many tools and advice that you can take advantage of the side that could help you out at any time that you might be lost or if you’re struggling with a problem. It is comprehensive and very productive in a lot of ways that would help any beginner UX/UI designer become more experienced and professional.

I have loved the time that I spent on this course and despite it just merely being online where I have read, watched, and wrote a lot of things there were still many valuable lessons that I was able take away from this entire course. I am glad to be graduating this year and being able to finally take everything that I have learned in my years in the University to the test.

I wish you the best for the rest of the year, Merry Christmas, Happy New Years, and thank you for your time and assistance with everything that you have done so far.
