Exhibit Work

Reading comics, mangas, and manhwas growing up made me develop a fondness for storytelling and character design. That’s why I created a small fun colorful comic book appropriate for any age to read. The story is simple, a sleepover with four best friends who are creating memories together. The reason why I went for a sleepover theme is because there’s more time to make memories, and at least one memory can be relatable to whoever reads it. I explored this theme with the concept of friendship, because it means a lot to me. I have a lot of fond memories with my best friends like hanging out, doing our makeup together, having karaoke nights at each other's houses, etc. We are there for each other from sad times to the good times. Whenever I feel extremely alone, I know I can count on them, and whenever I feel overwhelmed, I think about the fun times I had with them, and it lightens my mood. Like the time I was the first one to sleep and woke up with drawings on my face, upset at first, but now I find it funny and laugh whenever I think about it. Memories can be mischievous sometimes.

The process of my comic is having the concept, the idea and then writing it down in a word document. I asked myself how many characters? Then I created a character design sheet for each character making notes of how their personality is, their color palette, and what their role for the story is. Then I started on the storyline along with the storyboarding to visualize my layouts, and how the storyline will flow. After revising the storyboards and making any changes necessary and once the final sketches are finished, I started inking it digitally by making an empty layer over the sketches layer and trace it. Once it was fully traced, I proceeded to add their basic color, their shades, and their highlights. I finally added the text after making sure it was fully done and then saved it as pdfs and got them printed into a booklet. Since it's a short story, I added the character designs to every character, draft sketches and storyboards to show my process from beginning to end
