Artist Statement
My first time with art was in elementary. Then, in middle school, I took art classes. I found a passion for drawing and creating artwork that my teachers would notice my skills and try to persuade me to join competitions. They would even use my craft to teach other students. At the time, I was unsure of what I wanted to do with art. Then, one day a high school visited my middle school to show the available programs offered at their institution. When I saw graphic design, it piqued my interest. I imagined it would be like what I saw on the TV, making cartoons and drawing digitally. So, I signed up for their classes without having a second thought. In high school, I continued taking art classes that helped further my artistic sense, and it helped immensely in applying it to graphic design assignments. Since I already had an extensive background with basic art concepts and Adobe software, I was ahead of my peers during my first years at UTRGV.
The way I get started is by drawing inspiration from the world around me, finding beauty in simplicity and functionality in every element. The interplay of color, typography, and space is not just a visual composition but a strategic choice in which I aim to evoke specific emotions and share a distinct message. Each project that I work on is a unique opportunity to blend aesthetics with design. Ensuring that the visual elements not only captivate the audience but also help convey a message effectively. Technology is also a crucial partner in my creative journey. Embracing the latest tools and techniques allows me to push the boundaries of what is possible. It certifies that my designs are not only visually engaging but also technologically relevant. I see each project as an opportunity to experiment with new ideas, challenge conventions, and contribute to the evolving terrain of graphic design.
My design philosophy revolves around the concept of harmony. Whether it's the balance of color palettes, the placement of typography, or the interplay of negative space, I seek to achieve a harmonious visual experience. I am fascinated by the idea that well-crafted design can seamlessly integrate into our daily lives. It is not only an aesthetic choice but an integral part of the way we perceive and interact with the world. Ultimately, my goal as a graphic designer is to create visual experiences that leave a lasting impression. Whether it's a brand identity, a digital interface, or a print campaign, I aim to craft designs that not only catch one's eye but also leave a meaningful impact on the viewer.
