Exhibit Work

For my exhibition project, I wanted to create a company that would go on to show that adults deserve entertainment that isn’t completely dark and gritty or raunchy in nature. I wanted to show people that adults are allowed to find entertainment, even in colorful graphic novels. In addition, I hope that my project shows people that even graphic novel art has value and that we shouldn’t just dismiss art just because it isn’t a classical painting. This is where “Prismatic Ocean Publishers'' comes into play. “Prismatic Ocean Publishers” , or “POP”, is a graphic novel publishing company that I created to show that there is an audience, a big one at that, of the exact adults that I described before. This company publishes high quality graphic novels that are targeted towards adults who have no interest in dark stories and are looking more for a colorful adventure.
The graphic novel I created for the exhibition is “Heart to Home”, a story of a girl who is lost between dimensions, in more ways than one. The main character, Ophelia, as seen on the cover, is both physically and emotionally lost between the countless universes she moves through. Feeling disconnected in every world she’s in, she only has two constants in her life. Her shadow creature, Duncan, who is always perched on her shoulder, and her dagger, the very thing that allows her to channel her powers to travel through dimensions. However, her world is suddenly brighter when she unexpectedly meets a girl, Meredith, who changes Ophelia’s view of the world. A fantasy adventure and coming of age story (with a hint of romance), “Heart to Home” connects with people who feel lost and lonely in a world that isn’t made for them and shows them that they do have a place in the world, no matter how small they feel.
