Exhibit Work

Untitled.png could be confusing and daunting exhibit theme to any artist, and I wasn't exactly sure how to approach it. I boiled it down to the great unknown of a blank canvas and the infinite possibilities when we create. With that in mind, I wanted to create and advertise something I had never done before, a children's book.
"Postell, Postell! Where is my Mail?" is a whimsical little story about a dragon, Postell, and his adventure on his first day at his new job as a mailman. Throughout the book, he learns he's not very good at his job: incinerating letters and damaging packages, running constantly late, and even delivering mail to the wrong addresses. But he always seems to dust himself off and tries even though he knows he's not very good at it.
That's the message I wanted to push with this book, that you might not be good at something the first try, or even your 100th try, but the point is that you're doing your best with what you have been given, and you're making it work. I think my generation is so afraid to try in fear of it not working out in their favor, and it holds many of us back in all aspects of our lives. So, I really wanted to push the idea that it's okay to fail in this book, and even when it gets bad, you can do something about it.
To give the book a more nostalgic feel, I chose a rectangle aspect ratio with soft painterly graphics and textures. I wanted it to have a whimsical, inviting aura, rekindling any feelings the readers may have towards the children's books of their youth.
With the context of the exhibit, I want to extend an invitation to explore and discover the vast unknown of your creativity. To take inspiration from Postell, and try, even if that means you fail the first couple of times. Embrace the chaos and limitless potential life has to offer, unburdened by the uncertainties ahead.
