UPDATE: CDC Recommends Additional COVID-19 boosters for Certain Individuals
Dear UTRGV Family,
Following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) latest recommendation, UT Health RGV is now offering a second booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech (Pfizer) or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines to:
- People aged 50+ at least 4 months after receiving their first booster dose of any authorized or approved COVID-19 vaccine.
- Immunocompromised people aged 12+ at least 4 months after receiving their first booster dose of any authorized or approved COVID-19 vaccine.
Currently, the Pfizer vaccine is the only authorized and recommended vaccine for children under the age of 18.
Additionally, the CDC recommends that people aged 18+ who received a primary vaccine and booster dose of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine at least 4 months ago now get a second booster dose using an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (i.e. Pfizer or Moderna).
