UPDATE: COVID-19 Booster Expansion

Friday, December 10, 2021 :: UTRGV Announcements

Dear UTRGV Family,

Following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) latest recommendation, UT Health RGV is now offering booster doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech (Pfizer) COVID-19 vaccine to anyone aged 16+ at least 6 months after their second Pfizer dose.

Currently, the Pfizer vaccine is the only authorized and recommended vaccine for children under the age of 18.

Scheduling COVID-19 Vaccines and Boosters

As a reminder, all people aged 18+ who have been fully vaccinated for at least 6 months can get a booster dose of any currently authorized COVID-19 vaccine.

General Public: Call 1-833-888-2268.

UTRGV Students: Call your nearest Student Health location or call 1-833-888-2268.

  • (956) 665-2511 (Edinburg)
  • (956) 882-3896 (Brownsville)*

UTRGV Employees: Call your nearest Employee Health location or call 1-833-888-2268.

*Student Health in Brownsville is open to all UTRGV employees, active students, and their enrolled dependents.

Scheduling Vaccines for Children Aged 5-11

Vaccines for children are only administered at specific UT Health RGV locations.

Please call 1-833-888-2268 and our scheduling professionals will help secure an appointment for your child.

Parents — Please note the following:

  • The lower-dose Pfizer vaccine is the only COVID-19 vaccine to be authorized and recommended for use in children aged 5-11 years and should be administered as a two-dose series, three weeks apart — just as it is for people aged 12 and up.
  • Appointments for each child’s second dose will be scheduled on site.
  • All children under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

For more vaccine information, including how to support children during the vaccination process, visit the CDC’s website on COVID-19 Vaccines for Children and Teens.

Thank you for your continued trust in UT Health RGV throughout this unprecedented vaccination effort.
