Thursday, August 19, 2021 :: UTRGV Announcements

Dear UTRGV Family,

Now that we’ve refamiliarized ourselves with the Daily Self-Screening questions, the next step toward a safe and successful fall semester is knowing what to do if you think you were exposed to — or infected with — COVID-19.

Preliminary COVID-19 Screening Form

For most of us, this involves completing the Preliminary COVID-19 Screening Form. All UTRGV students and employees must complete this form if they:

  • Have symptoms associated with COVID-19
  • Were in close contact with someone who recently tested positive for COVID-19
  • Were tested for COVID-19 and did not previously report it (includes all tests conducted at non-UTRGV sites within the past 90 days)
  • Traveled outside the U.S. (beyond the RGV border region) and are required to quarantine or get tested before returning to campus

Once you complete the Preliminary COVID-19 Screening Form, a member of the UTRGV COVID Response Team will contact you via phone within one business day of submission and provide further instructions.

Getting Tested for COVID-19

Depending on your situation, the COVID Response Team may require you to get tested. If you choose to get tested at a non-UTRGV/UT Health RGV location, please specify the PCR-Nasal Swab test. The COVID Response Team does not accept the rapid antigen test or antibody tests for case management purposes.

After You Get Tested

If you were in quarantine or self-isolation before testing, return to those arrangements, and submit your test results to the COVID Response Team. Positive or negative, you must submit all test results to the COVID Response Team for medical review. This requirement also applies to all COVID-19 tests you may have had within the last 90 days. If you test positive at a non-UTRGV site, you must also submit a copy of your test results for medical review.

You will receive an email from the COVID Response Team clearing you from the screening and testing process — please submit this clearance email to your supervisor or instructor. Until then, you are not allowed on campus.

Fall 2021 Expectations

We believe Fall 2021 can be a safe and successful semester — but we need you to do your part. There are currently no local, state, or national COVID-19 health mandates that enable UTRGV to require the wearing of face coverings or vaccinations within our campus community. And while UTRGV is not currently enforcing social distancing, the university continues to strongly encourage the use of face coverings, especially in settings when distancing is not possible. Because of these limitations, we all must consider the consequences of our actions and how each choice affects ourselves, our families, friends, and colleagues.

Whatever happens in the weeks and months ahead, rest assured that UTRGV has the experience and mechanisms in place to facilitate the uninterrupted continuation of your academic and professional journeys.

For the most current and accurate information regarding course modalities, campus operations, and services, including more proven and effective ways to mitigate your risk of contracting COVID-19, visit utrgv.edu/welcomeback.
