UPDATE: Face Covering Protocol
Dear UTRGV Family,
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently updated its guidance for fully vaccinated people regarding the use of face coverings.
According to the NEW Guidelines for Fully Vaccinated People, the CDC states:
- Fully vaccinated people can visit with other fully vaccinated people indoors without wearing masks or physical distancing.
- Fully vaccinated people can participate in outdoor activities and recreation without a mask, except in certain crowded settings and venues.
This update does not affect UTRGV’s current Face Covering Protocol. However, if you are fully vaccinated and on campus, you can safely:
- Visit in a private setting (private offices or meeting rooms) indoors with other fully vaccinated people without wearing a mask or physical distancing.
- Visit or conduct activities outdoors without wearing a mask, except in crowded settings and venues where social distancing is not possible.
IMPORTANT:
Everyone, including fully vaccinated people, must continue to wear a well-fitted face covering in indoor public spaces on campus (i.e. hallways, stairwells, elevators, common areas, lobbies, libraries, classrooms, gyms, etc.) as the vaccination status and risk for illness of others is likely unknown.
Failure to follow the CDC guidelines and UTRGV Face Covering Protocol may lead to disciplinary action. Proof of vaccination is currently not required.
For reference, people are considered fully vaccinated:
- 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series (i.e. Pfizer or Moderna vaccines) or
- 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine (i.e. Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine).
Thank you for doing your part to protect our UTRGV Family at this critical point in the pandemic.
