Finance

The Department of Economics and Finance at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley promotes excellence in teaching, research and service.  We provide our undergraduate and graduate students a variety of degree programs, which emphasize experiential learning and practical analytical tools required to compete in local, national and international labor markets.  Our research in both economics and finance advances theoretical and applied knowledge by largely (but not exclusively) taking into account issues related to the economic and the financial development of the U.S.-Mexico border region and Latin America.  The department hosts a variety of programs and seminars for our community on financial literacy and border economic development and entrepreneurship.

In each of these fundamental areas of teaching, service and research, our department fosters a continuous improvement model.  Through student, community and pedagogical input, we strive to enhance the delivery and content of our teaching programs.  Our research assessment processes include well-defined objectives to guide faculty and students to continuously achieve higher levels of intellectual contributions. Faculty members in the department are regularly publishing their research in quality and professional journals, as well as organizing edited volumes and participating in invited contributions. Faculty members also serve as reviewers and associate editors of many journals and are actively present in major professional meetings and conferences.  With regards to our community service, the department is committed to partner with external constituencies to broaden the scope and content of our service programs.

Interim Chair

Sincerely,
Dave Jackson, Ph.D.
Interim Chair
