The Archer Center

The Archer Center is the home of the University of Texas System's semester in Washington DC programs. The Archer Fellowship Program provides 15 credits of academic coursework (including 6 credits of internship) for undergraduate students in the Fall and Spring semesters. The Archer Graduate Fellowship Program provides 9 credits of graduate coursework for graduate and professional students during the summer.

The Archer Program at UTRGV

The Archer Fellowship Program offers students from across the UT System the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Washington, D.C., exploring government, policy, and leadership. Honors students are encouraged to apply to strengthen their professional skills, expand their networks, and grow as changemakers ready to make an impact.

UTRGV Archer Fellows have interned with a variety of organizations in Washington DC, including:

  • The U.S. Congress, including individual representatives and senators as well as House and Senate committees.
  • The National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators
  • Various agencies within the executive branch.
  • The Smithsonian and the National Gallery of Art.
  • Private-sector businesses including media, public relations, and communications firms.
  • Professional and scientific organizations such as the American Dental Association.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Overall GPA: 3.0 or higher
  • Previous work or internship experience
  • Campus leadership and/or community involvement
  • Junior or senior status at the time of participation
  • Completion of 24 hours in-residence and basic government coursework
