UTRGV Mission Statement

UTRGV serves the Rio Grande Valley and beyond via an innovative and unique education dedicated to student access and success. By championing leading research, healthcare, and application of University discoveries, we support sustainable development, community engagement, and well-being.

Traditions

Alma Mater

The UTRGV Alma Mater was created by alumni Roberto Garza in Fall 2018 and was played for the first time at the Spring 2019 commencement. Today, the alma mater is played at the end of athletic games, commencement ceremonies, and different signature events.

Orange Fridays

Orange isn't just a color; it’s part of our culture. As Dr. Bailey said, orange represents our collective spirit and support for our students and student-athletes. That’s why all Vaqueros are encouraged to wear orange every Friday. Whether it’s an orange t-shirt, hoodie, hat, or accessory, you’ll know what day it is when your community is united in UTRGV pride. Share your orange on social media and tag @utrgv.

Commencement Bell Ringer

Bell Ringers are honors given to graduating students at each commencement ceremony. The students selected have been actively involved in student life initiatives, demonstrated academic excellence, and embody the Vaquero Honor Code.

The UTRGV ring serves as a symbol of accomplishment. The ring is a connection between the past and future graduates that have earned the right to carve their name in the Vaquero legacy. The official UTRGV ring design is a true testament to a ring design for students by students.
