Below are some words to be familiar with that you may come across during your online learning journey. 

Glossary

Blackboard Learn, or Blackboard for short, is the tool you will be using to access your online courses. Blackboard is where you'll find your course content, such as required readings, recorded lectures, assignments, and grades. 

A course in which a majority (more than 50 percent but less than 85 percent), of the planned instruction occurs online, with the remaining occurring in a traditional face-to-face classroom.

Your internet browser is the tool you use to navigate the internet. Examples of this include Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge. 

A module or weekly module is a grouping of course content. Each module will contain items such as required readings, assignments, assessments, and other activities. 

Office 365 is a full version of the Microsoft Office suite, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Additionally, you will be using Office 365 to access your UTRGV Email. 

A course in which instruction is primarily (85 percent or more) delivered online. Examples of face-to-face sessions include orientation, laboratory, exam review, or an in-person test.

Interactions that do not occur at the same time. Examples of asynchronous activities include Discussion Boards and watching pre-recorded lecture videos. 

Interactions that occur at the same time. Examples of asynchronous activities include live lectures using tools such as Blackboard Collaborate or Zoom.
