SOUL - Student Organization for Unique Learners

In 2011, S.O.U.L. was established to promote awareness throughout the campus and the surrounding communities. This awareness is in regards to the abilities and exceptionalities concerning our unique learners. The Student Organization for Unique Learners (S.O.U.L.) has 26 members and growing. In the last two years there was a surge in our membership, which lead to many of our University and Community recognitions.

Our organization often engages in service learning projects that emphasize community service and learning. We also like to have fun creating a more service transformation that make work into an enjoyable learning experience.

On November 2015, S.O.U.L. was featured in the section Club Spotlight in the Rider our University newspaper. In the summer of 2016, S.O.U.L. won a special award “Students Organization of Excellence Award” from the profession organization, Texas Council for Exceptional Children.

There is always more room to grow and if anyone that is associated with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley can become members of our organization. In order to be considered a member one has to attend three volunteer events. There is an annual fee of $15.00 for club membership, which includes a t-shirt.

These are some of the benefits for becoming members of this organization. Leadership: This has always been a big part of our student organization. In impactful leadership has been distributed among our membership. This prompts our members the ability to learn a skill that can lead them to leadership’s role among the organization and community.  With the support of our advisors, members develop the skill necessary within the role of leaders to solve pragmatic problems.
