Thank you for your interest in the A PRIME TIME (APT) program at UTRGV-Brownsville.

APT was made possible due to funding from the University of Texas System, but that funding was discontinued in 2016. This loss of funding has resulted in uncertainty regarding whether or not our partner medical schools will continue to offer early conditional acceptance to APT students.

For this reason, we have decided NOT to admit graduating high school seniors into the APT program here on the Brownsville campus. We will be selecting our new cohorts of students from the BMED admitted Freshmen.

Should the medical schools decide to continue to offer provisional admission to APT students, we plan to recruit new APT students from among the pool of Biomedical Sciences (BMED) majors entering UTRGV. Please note that the B.S. degree in BMED is the exact same curriculum taken by APT students, if you are interested in pursuing a career as a physician, we strongly urge you to consider majoring in BMED.

Although there is more than one pathway from a bachelor’s degree program to medical school, we here in the Department of Health & Biomedical Sciences are proud to have had many students from our department – both APT and non-APT students – accepted to various medical schools in Texas and beyond, indicating that the BMED curriculum – along with your hard work and dedication – can offer a path to medical school.

We wish you the best of luck with your future endeavors!
