Sustainability Fellowship Programs


The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Office for Sustainability recruits fellowships with diverse skill sets and perspectives wanting to engage in projects addressing sustainability and community resilience on campus and in the Rio Grande Valley under the mentorship of a faculty member and coordinated by UTRGV's Office for Sustainability. Fellows range from undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty-based fellowships all aiming to achieve meaningful findings and research through the appropriate mentorship of a faculty member and/or faculty advisor. The fellowship also allows faculty to build a strong relationship with community partners and networking opportunities with other sustainability leaders. Those aspiring to become a fellow at the Office for Sustainability must meet all qualifying requirements and have a general understanding and interest in participating in finding sustainable solutions across campuses and their community.

Graduate Sustainability Research Fellowships

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) will competitively award up to 10 fellowships to outstanding graduate students to engage in projects addressing sustainability and community resilience on campus and in the Rio Grande Valley under the mentorship of a faculty member and coordinated by UTRGV’s Office of Sustainability. All new and continuing full-time graduate students enrolled in any on-campus master’s program at UTRGV. New students must have been admitted unconditionally and continuing graduate students must have a 3.2 or higher GPA.

Undergraduate Sustainability Research Fellowships

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) will competitively award up to 10 fellowships to outstanding undergraduate students to engage in projects addressing sustainability and community resilience on campus and in the Rio Grande Valley under the mentorship of a faculty member and coordinated by UTRGV’s Office for Sustainability. All new and continuing freshman and sophomore undergraduate students enrolled in any on-campus undergraduate program at UTRGV.

Our fellows have conducted research pertaining to many of the sustainable development goals across many different fields. Some of the research are pertain to sustainable engagement in education, sustainability for health, sustainable water filtration, sustainable solutions for therapeutic intervention, sustainable culture with RGV music education, food insecurity, sustainability in the curriculum, and many more.

Graduate Student Travel Award

The Graduate College sponsors the Graduate Student Travel Awards to support research-related travel expenses. Eligible students will be provided with a maximum award of $500 to help defray the costs associated with presenting at a conference. Graduate students may begin the process of applying for the Graduate Student Travel Award by completing and submitting the application and required supporting materials.
