Texas Regional Alliance for Campus Sustainability

The Texas Regional Alliance for Campus Sustainability (TRACS) fosters a statewide network that embodies inter-campus collaboration and aspires to lead the world into a sustainable future committed to environmental preservation, economic development, and social equity. As the sustainability movement in Texas matures, there is a greater desire to not just learn from each other’s experiences but also to engage in collaborative efforts across Texas. Now in its 8th year, TRACS brings together leaders who are institutionalizing sustainability within higher education by integrating it into all aspects of academics, outreach, and operations.

The TRACS Planning Committee invites you to join us as we continue to discover and explore emerging issues as a collective group of dedicated leaders. The Texas Regional Alliance for Campus Sustainability provides the time and space for dialogue on experiences and challenges in an open and collaborative environment. We have moved beyond show and tell presentations towards skill building, rich discussions and deep dives into the challenges and solutions facing our institutions.

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was delighted to host the 2020 Annual Texas Regional Alliance for Campus Sustainability at the South Padre Island Convention Center but it was canceled due to the pandemic. This summit was scheduled to be held at the South Padre Island Convention Center, one of the largest destinations and most valued ecological regions of South Texas. The summit focuses on continued education for sustainability practices, and participants will have the opportunity to engage and converse about overcoming the emerging issues arising in today’s society.

South Padre Island is home to one of the most beautiful scenic beaches of Texas with something for everyone to enjoy, whether it's nature, water parks, or an attractive nightlife. The convention center - where the summit will be held - is just a few walkable blocks away from restaurants, attractions and shops, including Sea Turtles, Inc., boat rides and dolphin watches, and Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark. SPI is a short drive away from Harlingen and the Brownsville International Airports, which might be your first connection to South Texas’ landscapes and beauty.
