Behavioral Intervention Team
The Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) assesses, consults, and responds to student behavior that is concerning or threatening. The team is dedicated to helping the student by developing a specific strategy and recommending appropriate action to university officials for each case. The purpose of BIT is to assist in university-wide efforts to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the UTRGV community.
Types of referrals include but are not limited to:
- Written material containing alarming wording or out-of-context wording
- Statements that indicate the threat of harm to self or others
- Injury/illness
- Suicidal ideations or attempts
- Threatening behavior
- A disregard for personal boundaries
- Classroom and other behavioral issues
- A significant change in behavior
- Alcohol/substance abuse
- Classroom and other behavioral issues
- Hospitalizations
- Students in distress
