Tryouts FAQ
What do I need to bring to the audition?
The following items need to be turned in before the audition:
- Candidate Application (online)
- Facility Waiver
- Medical Waiver
- Headshot (8x10)
- Reference Letter
- Dance Resume (optional)
- UTRGV Acceptance Letter (new students only)
- Academic Transcript (transfer students only)
What is the audition process?
Candidates will audition using the fight song, an audition routine, and advanced technique in small groups.
A panel of experienced adjudicators will oversee the audition process. They may also be invited to observe during clinic times.
Are there any fees?
Currently, there are no fees to audition for the dance team.
What do I wear?
This is a professional audition, and you want to look and feel your best. Think of this audition as a performance.
Females
- Wear a sports bra top, boy shorts/bike shorts, jazz shoes, and tennis shoes.
- Hair should be worn down and styled.
- Performance makeup and lashes should be applied (*natural makeup is preferred).
- Tattoos must be covered with professional-grade makeup or a nude tattoo sleeve.
- No jewelry. Stud earrings are acceptable.
- MANDATORY: All-black dancewear (shoes may be black, white, or tan).
- Wear a fitted T-shirt or tank top, shorts or jazz pants, jazz shoes, and tennis shoes.
- Clean-cut hairstyle and facial hair.
- No warm-ups.
- Tattoos must be covered with professional-grade makeup or a nude tattoo sleeve.
- No jewelry. Stud earrings are acceptable.
- MANDATORY: All-black dancewear (shoes may be black, white, or tan).
Are spectators allowed?
Auditions are closed to the public. Only candidates, coaches, and/or adjudicators are allowed in the facility.
When will I find out if I made the team?
Dance Team and Dance Team Captain results will be posted no later than the end of each day of the final audition, respectively.
