Tryouts FAQ
What do I need to bring to the tryout?
The following items need to be submitted before the tryout:
- Candidate Application (online)
- Facility Waiver
- Current Physical signed by a physician
- Headshot (2400 x 2400 pixels or 24000 x 3000 pixels)
- Reference Letter from previous or current coach
- Cheer Resume (optional)
- UTRGV Acceptance Letter (new students only)
- Academic Transcript (transfer students only)
What is the tryout process?
Candidates will tryout using the fight song, a cheer, a brief interview, and any tumbling skills, if applicable.
A panel of experienced adjudicators will oversee the tryout process. They may also be invited to observe during open practice times.
Are there any fees?
Currently, there are no fees to try out for the cheer team.
What do I wear?
Females
- Wear a sports bra top and/or fitted t-shirt, bike shorts, and cheer shoes.
- Hair should be worn up and out of the face.
- Natural performance makeup is preferred.
- No jewelry.
- Tattoos must be covered with professional-grade makeup or a nude tattoo sleeve.
- Preferred: All-black cheer/dancewear or workout clothing.
- T-shirt, shorts or athletic pants, and tennis shoes.
- Clean-cut hairstyle (out of face) and facial hair.
- No warm-ups.

Are spectators allowed?
Tryouts are closed to the public. Only candidates, coaches, and/or adjudicators are allowed in the facility.
When will I find out if I made the team?
Results will be posted no later than the end of the day of tryouts.
