Dr. Miguel Angel Tello received his Doctorate in Medicine from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. He completed residency training at the Valley Baptist Family Practice Residency Program in Harlingen, Texas. After completion of his residency, he was in private practice for 9 years in Weslaco, Texas. Dr. Tello is Board Certified in Family Medicine and has a special interest in outdoor/wilderness medicine, urgent care, adolescent medicine, and management of chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.

Gerardo Munoz-Monaco, MD

Dr. Gerardo Munoz Monaco obtained his Medical Degree from the Universidad de Carabobo in Venezuela, and completed his training at Indiana University.

He has practiced as a family medicine physician for five years, with a focus on Preventative Care and Quality/Coding.

In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Munoz is a member of American Academy of Family Medicine, Board Certified by the American Academy of Family Physicians, member of the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA), and member of the NHMA Board Development Committee. He resides in McAllen, TX with his wife and two kids.

Eron Manusov, MD

Dr. Eron Manusov received his Bachelor of Science in Psychobiology at the University of California, Riverside, Calif. He earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences School of Medicine in Bethesda, Md.  He completed a family medicine residency at David Grant Medical Center, Travis AFB, California and a faculty development fellowship from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His career in the military helped him hone his teaching, leadership, and clinical skills.  Dr. Manusov then used that experience to care for rural and underserved populations 

His 30-year career has focused on the care of the underserved and health care disparities reduction and has included military deployments, varied clinical care in multiple countries, academic appointments at his alma mater, and 10 years of work in rural medicine. Dr. Manusov spent time at The Florida State University College of Medicine working in the Department of Family Medicine and Rural Health.  In addition to mentoring students, directing the behavioral medicine curriculum and teaching, his research focused on using simulation to teach professionalism and ethics, characteristics of rural health care physicians, and success of underrepresented minorities in medicine.  His passion is the care of the underserved and he spent many hours working in indigent care clinics and working in pipelines to health care professions for young disadvantaged youth.  He spent time as the vice president of Clinical Education and Services at the Southern Regional Area Health Education Center and program director for the Family Medicine Residency where he helped manage a multidisciplinary Integrated Care Curriculum. 

He is passionate about providing outstanding, compassionate, and integrated care in a patient-centered medical home environment and teaching learners to care for the underserved.  His philosophy is to change the health care system for the future; providers must work together, practice evidence-based lifelong learning, and love to serve.

Dr. Jennifer L. Ortega received her undergraduate degree in Social Work from the University of Texas Pan American (UTPA). She continued her education at UTPA and earned a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Guidance and Counseling. After 8 years working as a counselor within various private schools throughout the Rio Grande Valley, Dr. Ortega became a Certified Professional Life Coach and created a life coach service “Life Coach for Wellbeing”. Through her work as a Certified Professional Life Coach, Dr. Ortega conducted various community presentations focusing on the power of thoughts, emotional intelligence, personal growth and overall mental and emotional wellbeing.

While maintaining her life coach service, Dr. Ortega continued to serve her community as a clinician for The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) where she counseled unaccompanied minors from Central and South America. It was during her time at ORR that Dr. Ortega decided to pursue her Doctorate Degree in Professional Counseling (DPC) from Mississippi College. Dr. Ortega’s research focused on the development of a group treatment model designed to facilitate healing during the post-divorce adjustment period among middle adulthood Hispanic women. As a strong proponent of Positive Psychology, Dr. Ortega’s treatment model incorporated elements of Positive Psychology such as gratitude and character strengths in an effort to promote healing.

With over 15 yrs. of experience in the mental health field, through her work as a Doctor of Professional Counseling, Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Professional Life Coach, Dr. Ortega believes that anyone can live an abundant life filled with peace, balance, health and wellbeing. It is for this reason that Dr. Ortega has dedicated her life to helping others achieve their goals, heal and attain personal, emotional, physical, spiritual and financial success in an ever-changing world.

Evan Perez, MD

Dr. Evan Perez is a product of the Rio Grande Valley. He attended school in Edinburg from Kindergarten through College. He graduated from Edinburg High School and then graduated magna cum laude from the University of Texas Pan America (UTPA) with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Dr. Perez completed his Family Medicine residency at Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program in Houston, Texas. He then completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at Texas Tech University El Paso.

Dr. Perez was the UTPA Student of the Week for the week of November 15th, 2009. When asked “Do you plan to return to the Valley?” He responded at the time “I plan on returning to the Valley to practice medicine and give back to the community in whatever ways I can.” Dr. Perez is excited to return to the Valley and fulfill his dreams.

Dr. Perez is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) and through the ABFM also certified in Sports Medicine.

He is currently an Assistant Professor for UTRGV Family Medicine Residency Program. He also serves as a team physician for UTRGV Athletics.

Adrian Sandoval, PharmD, BCPS, BCACP

Adrian Sandoval, PharmD, BCPS, BCACP

Adrian Sandoval, PharmD, BCPS, BCACP is an Assistant Professor within the Department of Family and Community Medicine and Discipline Expert (Pharmacology) at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) School of Medicine (SOM).

Dr. Sandoval is a clinical pharmacy specialist with a primary care scope of practice and faculty at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance (DHR) and Knapp Medical Center (KMC) Family Medicine Residencies. He is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) and Board Certified in Ambulatory-Care Pharmacy (BCACP). Dr. Sandoval is the Director of the Pharmacotherapy Clinic at DHR and KMC FMRs and the Director of Pharmacology Curriculum for the Department of
Family and Community Medicine.

He completed an Ambulatory-Care/Community Pharmacy Residency at Scott & White Healthcare in Temple, TX. After completion of his residency, and before joining the SOM, he was faculty at The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy (COP)/University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) Cooperative Pharmacy Program (CPP). His interests include interprofessional practice/education, medication adherence, substance abuse, and primary care topics such as diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. Outside of work, he loves to spend time with his family, travel to historical sites, spend time outdoors, BBQ, and enjoys sharing laughs with his friends and family.
