Program Description
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Internal Medicine Residency Program at Valley Baptist Medical Center is a three-year program located at the southern tip of Texas, just north of Mexico and minutes from the Gulf Coast, in Harlingen, Texas. The city is blessed with South Texas charm flavored with traditions of Mexico, all in a semitropical climate that invites year-round outdoor fun.
The residency program was established in July 2002 and was sponsored by The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) and accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). At that time, we had four resident positions per year and have since grown to 10 per year. In addition to the increased resident positions we became part of UTRGV in April 2015. The UTRGV family has been outstanding and we are glad to be a part of this growing medical community in the Rio Grande Valley.
