Dr. Oliverio Abarca was born and raised in El Salvador where he obtained his medical education at University of El Salvador, School of Medicine. He moved to Texas following his dream since the beginning of medical school. He did rotations and started research projects as cofounder of IMGs Research Group in Houston, TX. Outside of medicine you will find Dr. Oliverio Abarca walking on the beach with his wife or working out. He believes teamwork is a key part of his life and enjoys cooking together with his wife during his free time. He is very excited to become part of UTRGV Knapp Internal Medicine program. His medical interests are Hospital medicine and gastroenterology.

- Alejandro Aquino, MD

Dr. Alejandro Aquino was born in Pharr, TX, and raised between Rio Bravo, Mexico, and the RGV. He earned his undergraduate degree from Duke University and continued his studies to obtain a master's degree in public health from TTUHSC. Additionally, he spent a year working in New York for the NYU/CDC program aimed at educating underserved youth. Upon returning home to the RGV, he completed his medical degree at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine. Dr. Aquino has made a commitment to best serve his community and has chosen to undergo his internal medicine training locally with UTRGV. Despite the changes to the area's training programs, he continues to choose to remain within the RGV, providing quality healthcare to the residents of the Valley. It is with great pride that he has now transitioned to Knapp Medical Center to reach the underserved population of the mid-valley. Dr. Aquino's interests in medicine encompass a profound commitment to providing quality healthcare to communities. He believes in the power of patient education and strives to empower individuals with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their well-being. Eager to contribute further to the advancement of medical education, he aspires to join the faculty of the RGV, where he can collaborate with brilliant minds, shaping the future of the UTRGV family.
- Sahir Bhatti, MD

Dr. Sahir Bhatti was born and raised in Ludhiana, India. After graduating from Christian Medical College Ludhiana, he gained extensive experience working as a general physician in underserved area of his home country. He also volunteered in many rural health outreach camps. He is excited and grateful to be a part of UTRGV-Knapp Internal Medicine. His professional interests include Gastroenterology and Hospitalist medicine. Outside of medicine, he loves working out, swimming, soccer, war history, video games, and thriller movies.
- Vamsikalyan Borra, MD

Dr. Borra was born and raised in Andhra Pradesh, India. He graduated from Rangaraya medical college, India. Since he was in medical school, he has been interested in cardiology and wants to pursue interventional cardiology in the future. His immense U.S clinical experience in cardiology made him familiar with the American healthcare system. Currently, he is focusing on cardiovascular research, in addition to advancements in internal medicine. His interests are general cardiology, interventional cardiology, and critical care. Outside of medicine, he likes playing cricket with friends, spending time with family, and trying different cuisines. Dr. Borra is excited to be a part of the UTRGV-Knapp Medical center for the next phase of his career.

Dr. Johanne Chaglasian was born in Houston, Texas. After moving to Argentina in 2007, Johanne finished high school in Mendoza, Argentina where his family still lives and are in the wine business. He later went on to do medical school in Universidad Nacional de Cordoba where he graduated in 2018. He is very excited to be part of UTRGV-KMC internal medicine. Some of his interests are sports including soccer, family, music, and food. Also, he has a very cute dog named Blue! He is highly interested in pursuing a career in Gastroenterology.

Dr. Eunbee Cho was born and raised in South Korea. She completed her medical education at Kyunghee University, School of Medicine, Seoul. In 2014, she had a beautiful experience at UC San Diego, California as an exchange student and decided to pursue her career in the US. 8 years later, she finds herself in Rio Grande Valley, Texas enjoying her dream life of learning and practicing Internal Medicine, interacting with people from diverse backgrounds. Her professional interest lies in Hematology/Oncology and Hospice/Palliative Medicine, questioning "what is a good death". Outside of medicine, she enjoys playing piano and listening to music, especially Chopin's pieces.

Dr. Jessica Daza was born in Miami, US, and raised in Valledupar, Colombia. She completed her medical education at Universidad Libre de Colombia. She practiced medicine in her hometown, working, volunteering with the community and underserved population with compassion, and empathy. During her time off, she loves spending time with her family and friends, trying different cuisines, working out, and enjoying outdoor plans.

Dr. Shakirat Ganiyu was born and raised in Nigeria. She obtained her medical degree from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Nigeria. After graduating, she went on to pursue short residency training in OGBYN at a tertiary health Institution in Nigeria and thereafter went ahead to pursue postgraduate studies in Surgical sciences with focus on General Surgery at The College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, Edinburgh in the United Kingdom. Dr. Ganiyu’s thirst for knowledge and new challenges brought her to pursue residency training in Internal Medicine in the United States. She is committed to providing care for the undeserved and is excited to be part of the UTRGV-KMC family. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and kids, watching action movies, making parfaits and other colorful cuisines.

Dr. Garcia-Cruz was born and raised in Puerto Rico. She obtained her medical degree from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara. While in medical school she worked with some non-profit organizations to provide free medical access to the underserved population. She had the opportunity to do free medical missionary travel to Venezuela, Ecuador, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Outside of medicine she loves to play sports and spend time with her German shepherd and her family.

Dr. Khairiya Haj-Yahya was born and raised in New York City but considers herself a Texas native after attending high school, undergraduate, and medical school all in the in the Rio Grande Valley. She envisions a future practicing as a hospitalist at an academic institution while also making time to travel the world in between. In her free time, Dr. Haj-Yahya enjoys exploring nature, watching true crime shows, painting, and napping with her cat.

Dr. Yong-Chan Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea, and raised in Ontario, Canada. He obtained his medical degree from American University of Antigua. His medical interests include primary care and preventive medicine. Outside of medicine, he enjoys playing and watching sports, and spending time with friends and family. He is excited to be a part of UTRGV internal medicine residency program.

Dr. Roy Kondapavuluru was raised in Nashville, TN and Hyderabad, India. He completed his medical education in ASRAM Eluru and is excited to pursue training at UTRGV-Knapp internal medicine program and living in the Valley. His primary interests include primary care, and he hopes to one day pursue a fellowship in Gastroenterology. Outside of medicine he enjoys playing and watching soccer, cooking and spending quality time with friends. Motto in life: It is not who you are underneath but what you do that defines you.

Dr. Shreel Patel was born and raised in Gujarat, India. She completed her medical education at GCS Medical College, Ahmedabad. She migrated to United States with her siblings and parents. Her field of interest is Gastroenterology that she wants to pursue further. She believes history taking is an integral and indispensable part of medicine. Other than medicine, she loves to spend her time with her siblings and loves to eat Khichdi, Bhakri and Ghee.
