Program Description

Dr. Henry Reinhart

Mission Statement

The primary goal of our surgical residency is to produce outstanding general surgeons with the knowledge, experience, and technical skills to perform at the highest level as both clinicians and academics.

Our program is dedicated to training compassionate, socially conscious surgeons who serve as leaders in caring for the entire Rio Grande Valley. We expect our graduates to have the maturity, personal skills, and ethical standards to become respected and productive members of the surgical profession.

Program Highlights

We are a recently accredited program located in Harlingen, Texas, that serves the surrounding communities of the Rio Grande Valley. The unique populations of the Rio Grande Valley and Northern Mexico create a remarkable learning environment for our main teaching hospital and a once first Level II trauma center in the region. Multiple diverse specialties are currently represented at the hospital, including our bustling general surgery and trauma service.

Residents will gain experience in the following areas:

  • General Surgery
  • Trauma Critical Care
  • Surgical Oncology
  • Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery
  • Advanced Endocrine Surgery
  • Endoscopy
  • Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Vascular Surgery
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Head and Neck Surgery
  • Transplant
  • Pediatric Surgery
  • Burns Surgery

Additionally, residents will have dedicated time for research/quality improvement and elective rotations. Residents will also gain early hands-on operating experience without competition from fellows.
